Things to Remember

by Dana Scott

actors performing on a stage
writers thinking on a page
halt your walking, boys and girls
little old women, clutch your pearls

a coin is flipped – heads or tails?
trade your box for garbage pails
wear tight clothing that doesn’t fit
and figure out a new way to sit

mount your horse and grab the reins
but don’t break into other lanes
make a promise, cross your heart
and always finish before you start
